EarthCam - Fall Cams 2005
EarthCam - Fall Cams 2005
I just found these on EarthCam. There are literally dozens of cams from all over the country showing fall colors. I have not really stopped to look at the colors but I can tell from the thumbnails that you are going to see lots of pretty countryside in the east and west coast states and others in between. I am going to spend a lot of time on this site. I hope you find it appealing, too.

Google Sightseeing
Google Sightseeing
While looking at http://www.refdesk.com this morning, I came across this site. I had to go look, thinking it would just be a site full of pictures from everywhere. Was I surprised.
It is a blog type site and covers all kinds of out of the way places. It is basically full of useless information but an interesting read. One blog talks about carrier landings. Another about the signs on buildings that can be seen from an airport. There are many more. It is a fun and interesting read.

National Geographic Photo of the Day Archive (wallpapers)
I keep an eye on this site. I use it to change my wallpaper from time to time. But, I also use it to add to my screen saver.
My screen saver is made up of pictures that I have taken, pictures that I took when watching animals on Africam and pictures from the National Geographic site.
The pictures can be seen in the order they were added or sorted somewhat by category.
Take a look.

Would you like to know about a particular Indian, chief or tribe? How about their agriculture or basket weaving or other crafts? There is an article about African Americans and American Indians.
I will be spending time on this site. I have just a little bit of Native Americn in me. I love finding out more about them.

Dan's List Supplement
Dan's List Supplement
Here is a website that I am continously adding to that goes with Dan's List. The list will not allow me to send pictures (comics, scenery, fun pages) so I am restricted to links. I cannot post some of them here because of copyrights but there will be a pemanent list of links and some other interesting and fun things that will be more visable than having to find them here. This will still be continuously added to. It is just another option. Some people like list serves, others like blogs and others like web pages. These three about cover it.
Have fun. I am about to embark on finding the fun things again.

Reader's Digest Has Updated Their Site
Reader's Digest: Health & Fitness
I may spend more time on it.
They now have different areas such as Health & Fitness, Food, Fun and games and others. They also have a store on site now.
Under Health and Fitness is listed Cancer Center, Cholesterol, Diabetes Center, Heart Center, Men's Health Center, Mental Health Center, Pain Center and Women's Health Center. You need to go see what is listed under the other areas. I know I am going to go look.

Historical Tour of the White House
Historical Tour of the White House
When I first happened upon this site it was concerning the first ladies. There is a listing of them and also of the kids. And, of course, they did not forget the presidents.
There are two other tours listed but I thought this would be the best one to start with. It covers a lot of the rooms.
It also spotlights the art in the house. There is also a link for the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and one for facts.
There is so much more. If you are interested in this kind of thing, you should go take a look.

Indoor Plants - Watering
This fact sheet has some very good information on when and how much water to give a plant. It also lets you know how to tell when a plant is in trouble from too much or not enough water.

Here's everything else you need to know.
Have a good time with a plant or two. They help with air quality and are just pretty and homey. Enjoy.

Indoor Plants

Indoor Plants
I have just found a new "toy" that is going to make putting pages on this site together so much easier. If I get a little carried away just humor me. LOL
I thought we could look at some house plants and also their care. I just realized these articles are going to go in the listing from bottom to top so if you read the others first - sorry.
I have not been all the way through this ring, yet. I hope you find some good ideas and help. It looks like it could be something that we could use.
If you don't have house plants it might brighten your day. With a good old philodendron all you have to do is water it and watch it grow. I had one go all the way around my mirror twice when I was a teenager. Eventually, the stem rotted at the dirt line. (Probably kept it too wet.) All I did was put the end in a vase of water and it was just fine. It just kept right on growing. I think you have to really try to kill one.
Anyway, look at it and all the other choices. I will be right behind you looking, too. LOL
Thought You Should See Garfield Today

I am getting this off of Yahoo. Just had to let you read Garfield. I hope you like him as much as I do.

Alaska

website but I love the pictures on it. There is a slide show whick I cannot get to work. From the way it is acting I think it is this too slow computer. There are also thumbnail pictures. I enjoyed the few I looked at and will go back later to check the rest of them.

Official State Websites
I wanted to see if this would be worth it. I looked at the first page of the official website for Alabama and was very impressed. I found a cam of one of the beaches (I will have to check it in the daylight in the morning.) and many other interesting options as well as government and news items.
I will put the web address in the side bar along with others as I check them. This may take awhile, but something I have wanted to do for a long time. Be patient with me. Have fun exploring this country.

PBS
I promised. Here it is. PBS
This site has so much information on it. If you can get a PBS station it is added information. By the way, if you do not know if you can get a station, there is a listing of them on the site. I can get two.
If you cannot get a PBS station, you can still learn from this site. I wish I had more time to spend on it.
Have fun.

Boston Post Road
I was just watching PBS and they were visiting the Post Road I decided to go looking for information on the internet. The link is one that I found.
I cannot think of the name of the program I was watching. I will check the PBS site later to get it. This computer will not let me check now without totally losing this page.
They were talking about how it went by the corner of Central Park when New York City was still small. It was very interesting. I think I will do a second article on PBS and see if I can find an article on this program.
In the meantime, you can check out this link and see where it leads with the links. I checked some of them and realized I might be spending all day long just looking at the history. That will be a rainy day activity.
For now, I am off to PBS to see what I can share with you.
Have a good day.

Cape Kennedy Space Center
Do you have a life long dream? I have always wanted to go to the moon. I took pictures of the t.v. screen when they were walking on it. If they go back, I hope they will take me with them.
If you are inteested in space travel, this site might interest you. I visited the Kennedy Space Center many years ago. It was fascinating and I am ready to go again. For now, I will just have to spend time on it's website.
There it will let you know when rockets of all kinds are going up. There is also history of the site and even an interactive area.
If you like space exploration, go spend some time here.

Sri Lanka
This morning while getting ready for church, I had the t.v. on. I was drawn to it when they showed a waterfall in Sri Lanka. I had to come to the computer and see what else I could find. I think you will be pleased with this site. If you are interested in learning about other countries, there are facts and information as well. If all you want to do is "sight see" online, there are plenty of pictures. I am really happy with this site.
They were affected by the tsunami but appear to be recovering quite well.
I know that I am going to spend a lot of time on this site
I hope you will look it over. It is fun to learn about other places. The world is so much smaller than it used to be.

Newspapers Online
It is Sunday and I want to read Garfield. Because of a neck and shoulder injury it is uncomfortable to try to handle the newspaper. That is how I found these so long ago. The listing is part of RefDesk, but I thought it important enough to let you know how to find the newspapers. You might want to read the comics, too. LOL
Of course, I know you want more than the comics and it is there. Just click on the newspaper that you want to see. In most cases, you will get everything that is in the print version. Online, there is a lot of extras, too.
The newspaper listings are broken down into cities in the United States and also foreign countries. There are also some other categories.
We can read the paper again.

The Alamo
When I was a twelve year old, I lived in San Antonio for a short time. I remember seeing the Alamo. Then, it seemed so large. Now, when I look at pictures of it, it seems so small. LOL
I found this site When I realized how much time I wanted to spend on it, I knew it was one I had to share.
There is the history of the Alamo on it. Also, there is a gift shop. When I found it, I knew I was in trouble. I found all kinds of things there. I am in serious trouble if I keep looking there. LOL There were miniatures of the building, all kinds of books and lots more. When I saw cook books I got out of there real quick. I will go back and look, I am sure.
Oh, and if you homeschool there is an area for you. I am so excited at how many sites are doing that.
If you cannot go see this, at least spend some time on the site. It will get you away for a little while.

History - St. Augustine, Florida
I was looking for the sites for the usual places to visit in St. Augustine when I stumbled upon this one. I will put the links for the other sites in the side bar but wanted to share this one with you.
It is all history and one that I want to go back and study. If you love history, please go look also. It covers history of the city from the beginning. And, there are so many links to other aspects of it.
I am feeling like I want to explore other parts of the country so there is no telling what else I am liable to add to this blog. If you have some ideas please let me know. I love to learn about new places.

World Is Round
I found this site in my never ending quest to find out information about the area of Tokyo, Japan that I lived in way back in the early 50's.
It is called World Is Round
Of course, the first pictures that I looked at were all of the ones of Tokyo. Then, I started finding pictures of other areas we had visited.
This is a site where members post their travel photos. Anyone can become a member. There are photos from all over the world. I could spend hours there. I am going through the photos from the countries in Europe now.
Armchair Travel is very easy on this site.

Online Groups
Do you belong to any online groups? Over the years, I have belonged to several.
I remember a long time ago I belonged to a group that focused on professional ice skaters. It was just for fun but helped us keep up with our favorites.
Another time, I belonged to a group for hibiscus growers. I believe it is still active. I just started running out of time. Of course, there are groups for other flowers, too.
Now, only because I belong to the Christian Writers Group, do I know about the groups at Yahoo I will go searching for more and put them in the sidebar.
While looking at the main page for Yahoo, I see they have it broken down into sixteen main categories. I can only imagine how many sub categories and then groups there are.

When You Don't Want To Cook and You Cannot Get Out
I mentioned that problem to a friend in another city one day and she mentioned Schwan's. I had never heard of it nor did I know such businesses existed. Now, all of you may be way ahead of me but humor me. There may be others.
She told me to check and see if I couid get it here. I could. I do not drive and our one and only restaurant out here had closed. All of a sudden, I did not have to cook everything I ate. I longed to eat out. Our only grocery store is a mile and a half away and I do not drive. I have walked it but cannot do it all the time.
So, I looked for the Schwan's website. Ice cream and meals already to just heat up in the oven and fruits and vegetables and on and on. This was just what I needed. I think I bought too much the first time but my freezer was full. And, I did not have to pull it home in my cart. Yippee!
If you want someone to cook for you and deliver it frozen to your door, try them. I have my favorites and some things I won't order again. It is just my personal taste. I think the quality is good and it keeps me out of the kitchen when I would rather eat crackers and peanut butter than cook.
Oh! just as another idea when I cook I cook a lot and put the leftovers in t.v. dinner trays set up as meals. I have my own homemade t.v. dinners and I like them. Then, I can eat my own cooking when I don't feel like cooking. That way there are no science projects growing in the refrigerator.

Hopi House
I just found out about Hopi House Having some Native American in me, I was drawn to it immediately. I also studied about the Hopis in elementary school so long ago in California. Dad was stationed there.
I heard about it on the ETV network and immediately came to my computer to see what I could find out about it.
This particular site has some nice pictures and lots of links. It also has good information. I did not check out any of the links. If you are interested in this type of thing check this site and it's links out.

Yellowstone National Park
Let's go spend the day at Yellowstone. I love this site.
There are three cams on this particular page. They are not links. If you don't feel like doing any more than going to the link I have provided, you can see three pretty pictures of Yellowstone.
Now, if you want to explore more the possibilities are endless.
There is a cam link. The Old Faithful cam is listed by itself but in the same listings.
Interested in wildlife? There is a bear sightings link and a bear stories link. They are both rather old but still interesting. I also saw a wolf link.
If you are interested in birds there is a link for that, too.
There are so many more links but I cannot remember them all.
I do remember that there is a link to the North Rim and I know there are more interesting things over there.
Go have some fun and spend part of the day in the park.

Magazines Online
Do you find it difficult to handle magazines? Did you know that a lot of them have a web presence now? Quite some time back I started looking for them. I enjoy them so much online.
I will not try to embed links as I mention different ones that I am familiar with. This computer is just being to cranky for me to try that. I am spending way to much time trying to get back online after it kicks me off. But, I will try to get them embeded as soon as I can (Even if it is one at a time.) I will also put a list of them in the side bar. I cannot guarantee a time line on either.
I started out with Better Homes and Gardens and from there added it's sister magazines. One of them is Ladie's Home Journal.
I also have Southern Living and one featuring the Midwest.
The four I have already mentioned have wonderful recipes and a feature so that you can have your own recipe box online.
There is also National Geographic. What I love most about it is the Picture of the Day. I have downloaded many of them. I mix them along with some of my own photos to create my own screen saver. It is so much better than any of the screen savers that I have seen elsewhere. And, it is fun to change it. I have about 200 pictures on it now.
I also have Women's Day, Family Circle, Reader's Digest and Oprah's magazine in my magazine folder.
Check your favorites in the search engines and see if they are online. You might be surprised at what you find. If you send me your favorites, I will put them on the link list to share with others.

So You Wish You Could Travel
I suspect most of you already are aware of this site. However, for those of you who are not, I want the rest of you to know of it.
EarthCam has been a lot of fun.
I use it a lot as I am writing articles for my blogs. I use it a lot when I just want to relax and "visit" another place. I have seen sunsets in Oklahoma City, been all over Washington D.C., all over London, and even vitited zoos without leaving my computer. There are beautiful landscapes all the way from the mountains to the oceans.
You can see Niagra Falls and Old Faithful. And, the list goes on and on. There is even a list of new cams.
Spend some time with it and I suspect you will be back often.

Jigsaw Puzzles To Work On Your Desktop
Are you tired of picking up puzzle pieces off the floor? Do you not work them because you cannot pick them up? I have found a fun site. It is called Jig Zone and it is a lot of fun.
It has puzzles galore in several different catagories. I love the flowers and parks. I also find the fractals quite interesting. Some of them are so pretty. There are also holiday, travel, and city categories. There are several other categories, also.
Do you want your puzzle easy or difficult? They go all the way from 7 to 244 pieces. I usually stay around sixty pieces. The pieces come in lots of shapes. It is a mix and match series of choices.
Also, if you don't like any of the puzzles on the site you can download pictures and make them into puzzles. They are presented in only one format but then you can change them to fit your own wants.
I've talked about it long enough. I want to go work a puzzle.

Are You Bored?
Have I got something for you. It is called RefDesk and it has been a main site for me.
What would you like to do? What city are you from? Would you like to browse their newspaper or one in the vacinity? You can find a link for it there. How about overseas newspapers? There are quite a few of them listed. You click on the front page and go from there.
How about the comics? And, they even have some oldies but goodies that are no longer published.
There is a myriad of encyclopedias that you can link to. And, all kinds of dictionaries and other reference sites.
How about a crossword puzzle? Or, a joke or website of the day? By the way. the joke and website can me emailed to you daily.
If you don't want to read but just look at pictures you can find sites for that, too.
It is a fun site and can keep a person busy for hours. It is on my desktop. On Sunday mornings, I head for the comics.

Henry B. Plant Museum

We are starting with a smaller museum before we go on to the major ones around the world. This one is special to me. It has quite a history which you can also learn about on the site.
In a nutshell, it started out as a luxury hotel for the wealthy from up north. They came down by train. Tampa was just a village when it was built.
It is now the University of Tampa, but one wing of the original building is now a museum. It has several rooms of the opulent furniture from the era and other interesting pieces that were originally in the hotel.
At Christmas, it is decorated for the season in the style of the heyday of the hotel. If they put pictures up of it this year, I will write another article.
So, if you are interested in this type of thing, go have a look. If not, go look anyway. You might be surprised.
